Finally, on the second attempt. The 29th Balls al Carrer Festival opens its season on Sunday 1 November at Plaza de la Merced, with eleven falla commissions taking part: it was the opening day scheduled for 18 October, which the dana storm left unheld.
The programme starts at 10:00 am with Marqués de Montortal-Berni Catalá, followed by Ministro Luis Mayans-Platero Suárez, Calvo Acacio, Plaza de Patraix, Doctor Gómez Ferrer, Plaza de la Tienda, Castellón-Segorbe (the falla of the Fallera Mayor de València), Tomasos-Carlos Cervera, Alquerías de Bellver-Garbí, Rosario-Plaça de Calabuig (home of the Fallera Mayor Infantil) and Corretgería-Bany dels Pavesos. Each commission gets a twenty-minute slot, running until around 2:30 pm.
The event thus resumes the calendar after the rains that filled early October with postponements, and confirms the circuit organised by the Fallas Department of València City Council and the Junta Central Fallera across seventeen Sundays and 175 performances in four squares of the old town: la Merced, Fueros, la Reina and Manises, running until 25 April 2027.
The new Fallera Mayor de València, Beatriz Blanco, also opens the season with the honour of seeing her own commission, Castellón-Segorbe, on the opening day. For anyone wanting to start November with the flavour of dolçaina and jota, la Merced is the place: free entry, dancing in the street and tradition truly back after the weather break.
