The fallas of Benaguasil have won La Plantà del Vidre —the Ecovidrio campaign run with the support of the Generalitat Valenciana— for the second consecutive year: during the 2026 festivities they recycled nearly 17,000 kilos of glass packaging.
The prize took the form of a tree-planting: every casal faller has sponsored a Ficus nitida specimen and a stand with an identification plaque has been placed at each tree. Ten commissions took part: Topairet, Carrer de Llíria, Picaor, Monte Montiel, l'Espardenya, Plaça de Bous, El Penyot, Cervantes, El Pilar and Altra Que Tal.
The award ceremony was attended by the Director General for Environmental Quality and Education, Jorge Blanco; Ecovidrio's zone manager, Manuel Sala; the Councillor for Festivals and Fallas, Ana María Aleixandre; the president of the Junta Local Fallera, María José Guillem, and representatives of the falla commissions.
The campaign aims to "raise awareness among fallero towns", Sala explained. This edition brought together 13 fallero municipalities from the provinces of Valencia and Castellón: Algemesí, Benaguasil, Borriana, Catarroja, Cullera, Gandía, Godella, la Eliana, la Pobla de Vallbona, la Vall d'Uixó, Llíria, Paterna and Torrent. During Fallas, Ecovidrio decorated the glass bins near the casals and set each town a target of kilos collected.
Blanco congratulated Benaguasil on repeating the feat, which "says a lot about how involved people are in this campaign, especially during Fallas". Aleixandre said she was proud of the double win, "as it helps enrich this green area". The initiative is part of the fallero world's push to leave a greener footprint, beyond València itself.
