The Illuminated Streets Contest (Concurso de Calles Iluminadas) for the 2027 Fallas already has its first date on the calendar. The Junta Central Fallera (JCF) has called the commissions interested in taking part to an information meeting on Monday 9 November at 19:00, in the JCF assembly hall (Avenida de la Plata, 117).

The meeting, announced by the Secretariat and the Festejos delegation, is the formal starting gun for the contest: it is where fallas are told the conditions for taking part, the deadlines and the criteria that will apply in the 2027 edition. It is the call that opens the process for commissions wanting to compete with their street lighting displays, one of the most recognisable images of Fallas week.

The contest comes after a 2026 edition in which Cuba-Puerto Rico again took first prize in category A, its eighth in a row, with a display that topped 229,920 light points across its demarcation. In category B the top spot went to Río Tajo-Cavite. That year's verdict handed out four prizes in the top category and up to seventeen in the second.

For the commissions, the 9 November session is also a chance to clear up doubts before commissioning projects from lighting companies, work that has grown in technical complexity and budget in recent years. The 2027 contest rules will be set out as the process opens at that meeting.
